UWE Animation 2019 – A Retrospective

2020 has arrived, and sometimes a retrospective needs to happen. This blog post is about celebrating just some of the work of our students and graduates did just last year!

BFI Animation Camp 2019
Earlier this year, first-year BA Animation student Amy Hunt joined forces Aardman Animations and Calling the Shots to work with some talented individuals on a residential course in Bristol. Amy Hunt talked to me about her time in our blog post here

RTS Regional Student Awards 2019:
Last year we celebrated UWE having had all three finalists in the running for the animation award. This year all three finalists were female directors. Efa Blosse – Mason, Marta Dias, Sabrina Marengo with Efa winning with Earthly Delights! You can find our blog post about this event here

The Big Bear Sculpture Trail 2019
The Big Bear Sculpture trail was organised to celebrate Wild Place Project’s newest exhibit, Bear Wood, which opened in the summer. The 3D sculptures have been designed by some amazing artists, including our very own Georgia Monical Ball, our Animation MA student.
Here what she had to say about the project here

CONNECTED Virus Network 2019
Two of our students, Eve Bannister and Charlotte May were commissions by the CONNECTED Virus Network based at the University of Bristol and Newcastle University to make a 90-second animated film about plant diseases that destroy African Food crops. You can watch that film here:

Hagbox at Aardboiled and Cartoon Springboard 2019

Later last year three of our graduates, Cilian DuBock, Hector Kuenzler-Byrt & Ben Spybey formed a collective called Hagbox, showing their work to Aardman for Aardboiled, a YouTube hub for “creators of original, off-beat animated comedy, and Cartoon Springboard 2019 showcasing their graduate film Hey Pappy

Whilst at Springboard the project was selected along with 23 other projects from the best European schools including Gobelins, La Poudrière, Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Universitat Politècnica de València, The Animation Workshop, etc.

They had a great time in Valencia and was approached by producers afterward. Well done guys!
There’s loads more, just the tip of the iceberg.

Keep checking our blog as we celebrate our students’ and graduates’ successes.
